Brent's New Gig

We moved to Arlington in November so that Brent could start his new job with the Arlington Fire Department.  He has endured 26 weeks of training (EMT and Fire Academy) so far and has 5 to go (that's well over half a year for those math nerds).  In June, he will begin as a Rookie at a fire station somewhere in Arlington.

Fire Academy has been a whirlwind! Brent has been studying and working his butt off - literally, he has dropped some weight.  They have rigorous physical training every morning, a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on craziness during the day (deploying hoses, cutting apart cars, climbing ladders, carrying people out windows, and fighting controlled fires) and then he comes home, covered in sweat or water, or both, and smelling like a locker room or barbeque pit, or both. He then showers and studies until bedtime.

I can tell he loves Fire Academy and that this is what he was born to do.  He comes home stressed about mistakes he has made during the day and stresses about the pressure it puts on him and on us, but I can tell there is still so much passion in his heart. I am so proud of him and can't wait until he is out there saving and changing lives!
