Dear Gray

Dear Gray,
If anyone ever tells you that your name is a dull, dreary color, a color that lacks life or brings thoughts of sadness or depression, here is what I want you to know.

With God's leading, I named you Gray for many reasons, none of which are related to the darkness of that color. Gray is the color between white and black, the intermediary between darkness and light, which is exactly where I believe God wants you. I firmly believe that through your giftings, you will be able, through your neutrality and ability to see past the dark that rests on people, to be the one who brings people from the darkness into the light of Christ's love. You will bring humility and steadiness to those who need it, just as gray can tone down colors that are too brazen or bright. You will be able to bring confidence to those who are unsure of their calling or abilities, just as gray, when placed against it, can bring light and life to a dull color. You will be strong, wise, elegant, confident, and able to bring compromise to situations. The Lord has called you to be a woman of dignity.

Gray is the color of the skies just before or after a storm. Many people associate this with dreariness or a bad weather day; but I don't see it this way. Storms, just like the sun, bring life to this world.  Without rain, the plants and animals would perish, and without storms God would not be able to reset the unbalances of nature.  Symbolically, the storms of life, although unpleasant, are the Lord's way of bringing us through a wilderness to prepare us for our promise land.  You will do this for people – bring unbelievers to salvation and help believers understand and persevere  through whatever storm the Lord has in store for them.

Gray, I love you. You are beautiful and will be resilient in any situation.  I pray God's blessings over you as you become a great force, leading others to Christ.

With all my best and all of Christ's love,
Mommy
